Project Scope:

As part of the operation of this park facility, Gaston County will design and construct a guardhouse for park employees, gate access controls, and road widening of the entrance to the park to better accommodate traffic flow into and out of the park. Phase 4A of this project installs a temporary structure to enable park operations to commence while the permanent guardhouse, road and gate controls are constructed.

Background:

In July 2023, the Gaston County Board of Commissioners approved a lease agreement with Duke Energy for operation of the South Point Access Facility located at Boat Launch Road south of Belmont. The Master Plan includes a swim beach, canoe/kayak launch, fishing piers, picnic shelters, and a new guardhouse at the park entrance. To date, these amenities are complete. This project will widen the entrance road to better accommodate traffic, construct a new, permanent guardhouse, extend water service into the park, and upgrade the signage and wayfinding. This project also serves as the beginning of Phase 4 development and will allow future phases to be constructed.
