Project Scope:
As part of the operation of South Point Access, Gaston County will design and construct necessary infrastructure improvements, utility connections, road widening to facilitate optimal traffic flow, security access controls and a permanent guardhouse.
Background:
In July 2023, the Gaston County Board of Commissioners approved a lease agreement with Duke Energy for operation of the South Point Access Park, located at 199 Boat Launch Road in Belmont. The Park Master Plan includes updates to the existing boat launch, a swim beach, fishing piers, picnic shelters, and a canoe/kayak launch, all of which are complete. The Phase 4 improvements include widening the entrance road to better accommodate traffic, extending water service into the park, upgrading the signage and wayfinding, and constructing a new, permanent guardhouse. Phase 4 is a strategic investment in infrastructure, designed to support both future development phases and the integration of planned amenities.
