Project Scope:

Gaston County is constructing a boathouse at Southpoint Landing to store 2-3 County Police Boats as well as a GEMs dive boat. This boathouse will feature floating lift systems and lockable rolling doors to protect the vehicles from damage and theft.

Background:

By providing a space for County boats to be readily available at all times, emergency response time to riverine emergencies can be shortened. This will increase public safety on the waterways, especially in instances where rapid response is critical to preserving life and property.

County aquatic vehicles are currently stored on land in trailers stored and must be transported to a boat launch when needed. By having a fleet of boats readily available, County Police are more prepared to respond to emergencies such as boating accidents, medical emergencies, and missing persons.
