Project Scope:
This project will construct a multi-slip boathouse at South
Point Access to store Public Safety boats. The boathouse will be fully enclosed with floating lifts and
rollup doors at the end of each slip. This will provide secure storage and protecting
the boats from weather damage and wear while keeping them easily accessible.
Background:
Emergency boats are currently trailered (hauled) to locations during
emergencies. With the boats stored at the water, quicker deployment is possible during critical situations. This will provide a more consistent police presence on
the lake, which not only aids in faster response to emergencies, medical
situations, or missing persons, but also provides visible security for park
visitors. Storing the boats in a boathouse rather than trailering during
emergencies reduces the time and effort required to respond. It will be
more feasible to conduct regular patrols, improving public safety on the lake
and surrounding area. The presence of a police boathouse will also allow law
enforcement to engage more proactively with the community. When citizens feel
safe, the overall attractiveness of the area may increase, encouraging local
development, tourism, and investment.
