Project Scope:
This project upgrades the existing mechanical systems and provides COVID mitigation equipment to improve indoor air quality in the Comer Engineering Technology Building and the Robinson Classroom Building.
This project is being supported, in whole, or in part, by federal award number CFDA 21.027 awarded to Gaston County by the US Department of the Treasury.
Background:
Gaston College identified
several buildings on its main campus that need either immediate HVAC
replacements, repairs, or upgrading of aged boiler systems. These systems are
old, outdated, and have reached the end of their useful life. The College has experienced
funding constraints in areas of operation, facilities and deferred maintenance
needs which has made the needed upgrades challenging. North Carolina General
Statute 115D requires Counties to provide funding for maintaining all
public-school buildings within the County, but local funds are limited. Under
the SLFRF program, funds for installation and improvement of ventilation
systems can be used for projects that respond to the pandemic's public health
impacts and provide longer-term benefits. The County contracted with AME
Consulting to study the needs, prioritize the projects, design improvements,
and completed those improvements in several buildings.
